The world isn't designed for us to feel good enough

I need to share a quote with you, because it blew my mind. Layla Saad sent out her newsletter earlier today and in it she said..

"It doesn’t matter how many achievements or accolades we gather, we never see ourselves as enough because the world is designed for us to not see ourselves as enough."

I can't stop thinking about it.

Layla Saad was specifically talking about imposter syndrome, but there is so much more to that statement.

We doubt ourselves as a default, then we blame ourselves for doubting ourselves.
But we are a part of a world that is designed for us to doubt ourselves.
Speaking of capitalism, racism, patriarchy, anti-fat bias, mental health discrimination. Does that feel like it takes some weight off your shoulders? Knowing that it makes sense that we might have imposter syndrome sometimes because our world is designed that way? Because it definitely does mine.

Here's another thing:
There's a big part of that world, or system that also favours smaller bodies.
Diet-culture tells us that we have to be in a small body to be 'enough'. Even if we torture our bodies to get to that smaller size: the system is set up that we will never be enough. Then it's stretch marks, or freckles, or hip dips or whatever new hate-trend happening.
When we leave diet-culture we still have days we slide back, when our brain gets back on the same hate messaging 'your body isn't good enough'. Then we are hard on ourselves. But similar to imposter syndrome, diet-culture is set up so that we will never see ourselves as good enough.
The world isn't designed for us to feel good enough. The beauty industry, the fitness industry, supplements, big pharma, they're all set up to make money from us not feeling good enough. There is messaging everywhere literally listing the reasons we aren't good enough, so it is any wonder we have days we can't help but hear that message?
The most rebellious thing we can do in a world built to make us doubt ourselves is this: love ourselves. To support ourselves, care for ourselves as if we are people that fucking matter.
Because we do, and we deserve that care.

Updates:

I’m thinking of switching my email newsletter platform to offering tree-the same platform that hosts my website. It will just be simpler to have everything through the one platform. Nothing much will change for you, but I want to be transparent with you about this, as I am with other things too!

The new merch is still slowly coming out, one item at a time. The website I use to design keeps crashing so…yeah, I’m trecking away.

A couple weeks ago I took Layla Saad’s online training called ‘Anti-Racism in the Workplace’ highly highly recommend. (she also has a book called Me & White Supremacy I recommend)

Holiday Care Packages are back! They’ll be available to purchase in the next week or so. This year there will be a deluxe edition (oooo, aaaahh) that I’m really excited to share. To pre-order send me an email!
